Nookcycling is a participatory process of recognising, expressing, and reshaping uncomfortable emotions through visual reflection. At the centre of this project is the idea of the nook, which is not simply a cozy corner but a personal emotional refuge where feelings of discomfort can be gently acknowledged and transformed. The nook becomes a symbolic space that holds emotions with care, allowing them to shift and take new forms.

Through an interactive toolkit, participants are invited to explore their emotional landscapes using drawing, collage, and tactile activities. In creating their own version of a nook, they begin to see emotions not as fixed states but as materials that can be recycled, reorganised, and reimagined. This process offers a quiet yet generative way of working with emotions. By turning discomfort into new visual, spatial, and emotional possibilities, Nookcycling encourages reflection, personal expression, and the potential for shared understanding and care.

Nook is a small, comforting space. At Westfield Mall, I asked ten people “What is your nook?” and gathered their answers into a nookbook and response cards.
Displayed in a custom installation, the project explored the nook as both a physical and emotional refuge.

The interviews showed that a nook could be both a place and a person, ranging from the privacy of a bathroom to the presence of a partner,
each offering comfort in moments of emotional discomfort.
